The higher the sample count, the less noisy your render will be.” Instead, he goes, “It’s a Monte Carlo, Russian roulette system of blah blah blah…” and immediately misses the point XD Same with when he attempts to explain the Noise Threshold setting in the Render properties tab, just one or two quick sentences to introduce the idea would’ve sufficed, but then he suddenly goes into, “it’s a low amount, but actually if you think about it, it’s really a high threshold…”ĭon’t get me wrong, I used to really, really like the Blender Guru tutorials. Symptomatic of the whole 3.0 series is when Andrew tries to explain what samples are: “How technical do you want to get?” Dude, considering it’s a beginner tutorial, maybe not very technical at all? Maybe just recycle the explanation you used for the 2.8 tutorial: “Samples are the noise you see in your image. I did the new one, and yes, it was super-rambly and often confusing. Not that there’s anything wrong with sticking with Grant Abbitt Overall the newer donut series was more like a rehash aimed at people who already knew what they were doing, than a legitimate “beginner-level” tutorial series.Īnyway, my point is, if you ever want to try the donut tutorial again, the 2.8 version is better than the 3.0 one. Important stuff that was present in the 2.8 series, like basic hard-surface modeling, was missing in the 3.0 series as well. There was quite a bit of rambling, and sometimes some downright confusing explanations for concepts that aren’t very complicated. ![]() Meanwhile, the Blender 3.0 donut tutorial series felt like it was made just for the sake of having another donut tutorial, to go along with a new major release/version of Blender. (That being said, I finished the 2.8 tutorial series in a week, came back to it almost a year later, and realized I’d somehow either missed or forgotten half the concepts and ideas being taught. ![]() The explanations were adequate, the pacing was reasonable, and in every episode there was a good balance between learning something new and seeing a substantial change in your donut model. Out of curiosity, which version of the donut tutorial did you follow? Was it the Blender 2.8 version made back in 2019 or the Blender 3.0 one that was released last December? Could just be me, but there’s a huge quality disparity between the two–the former is what I relied on when learning Blender, and I felt like it did a good job in terms of the introduction of concepts, giving a broad view of what you can do with the software. I actually stumbled across that exchange between you and just a few minutes after it took place (relatively speaking.) It seemed like a regular interaction, but I’m glad it had such a positive effect on you. I was so demotivated by the donut failure that blocky sheep with googly eyes seemed like just the thing to cure that. I decided to cut my losses and start with something much simpler.Īnd I got really, really lucky I stumbled upon Grant Abbitt’s YouTube channel. And when I started over I realized what I had already suspected – that the tutorial proceeded in a way that nothing much had really stuck. I got to the icing with much cursing, and somehow my mesh was really messed up, and I had no idea how to fix it. Also, because in any community I participate in I want to give back, and since I can’t post any amazing art pieces that’ll inspire people, maybe I can share with other beginners that it gets better, and how. I want to chronicle my learning experiences in one place because that sort of thing has always been interesting for me to look back on. I’m not playing House Flipper anymore, instead I practice in Blender. I am now much more excited about the multitude of things Blender can do beyond that, and I want to learn ALL THE THINGS. Anyway, though I have gotten to the point where I can make many of the assets I originally wanted to learn how to make, ironically my focus has already shifted. I’m not an artist I have no training in anything artistic – but I love looking at other people’s art, and I have stuff in my head, and it occasionally wants out, which doesn’t really go well because I lack knowledge of techniques in anything but photography, and had no time to acquire those (workoholic). Maybe it was time to give Blender a serious try. My proximate reason for learning to model now was that I got sucked into playing House Flipper, was constantly wanting more items for decorating, and then realized that it has a Steam Workshop, and I could make my own assets. So I know my way around how many things work technically, but I am a novice to creating anything manually. I’m new to Blender, just a few weeks, and while I have experience with 3D software, I worked as a programmer, and never learned much proper modeling. encouraged me to start posting my newbie work, so I’ll give it a go.

Therefore, if the server you’re trying to connect to doesn’t have one installed, you won’t be able to access it using SSH. ![]() SSH Isn’t Installed on Your ServerĪs we briefly mentioned earlier, servers use SSH daemons to listen for and accept connections. For this reason, unused ports are often closed to prevent attacks. In addition to making sure you have the correct one, you’ll also want to check to see if the port you’re trying to use is open.Īny open port is a security vulnerability, as hackers can try to exploit it and gain access to the server. However, you need a card in every column to do so. When you’re unable to move any more cards, you can click the stock pile, which will deal out 10 face-up cards, 1 to each column. Use the stockpile if you run out of moves.Filling empty spaces helps reveal other cards in your tableau. You can also move a column of cards as long as the entire column is the same suit. In Klondike Solitaire, only kings can move into empty spaces, but in Spider, any card can move into the empty space. Once you have a sequence that descends from king to ace of the same suit, it will immediately be placed into a foundation pile and removed from play. Instead of building on separate foundation piles, like in Solitaire, you build descending sequences within the tableau. If, however, the sequence includes a 6 of Hearts, 5 of Spades, and 4 Hearts, you cannot move that sequence. For example, if you’re playing with Spades and Hearts and have a 6 of Hearts, 5 of Hearts, and a 4 Hearts, you can move that whole set on top of a 7 of Hearts or a 7 of Spades. If you want to move an entire sequence or column of cards, the sequence or column must be of the same suit, and you can place it on a card that is 1 rank higher but of either suit. Move columns of cards if they are the same suit. For example, if you’re playing with Clubs and Diamonds, a 6 of Clubs can be placed on top of a 7 of Clubs or a 7 of whatever the second suit is (Diamonds, Hearts, or Spades). To arrange individual cards, you just move them on top of a card that is 1 rank higher-even if it’s not the same suit. Move individual cards by rank, regardless of suit. When you deal from the stock pile, you will be dealt 1 face-up card on each column, overlapping the cards already present. You begin with only 10 face-up cards, but you can free face-down cards by removing a face-up card from on top of it. The only cards you can move are the face-up cards in the columns of the tableau. These rules help you understand how to play Spider Solitaire (2 Suits): The waste pile: Unlike Solitaire, you don’t use a waste pile because the stockpile cards are dealt directly onto columns in the tableau.Instead, you create the entire sequence in the tableau and then transfer it to a foundation pile when it is complete. Additionally, you don’t build on those spaces during the game. The Foundation piles: Like classic Solitaire, you leave room at the top for foundation piles, but you need 8 spaces instead of 4.If the stock pile runs out and you can’t make any more moves, you have lost the game. When you are stuck and can’t make any more moves, you deal 1 card face-up to each column from the stock pile until the stock pile runs out. ![]()
